Welcome
to the International Alliance of Morris Owners website
Morris-Austin Day at Brooklands
2010
Sunday March 7th
Last year there was a good turnout
of pre-war vehicles but Austins outnumbered the Morrises
for the first time.
The post-war vehicles more than redressed
the balance with the Minor very well represented.
This year Test Hill will be open
to all pre-war vehicles and the runs will start at 1:30pm
with the briefing immediately before the runs. The Hill
climbs have been moved to the later time so that the cavalcade
can follow on immediately at 2:00pm.
The museum opens at 10:00am and there
is a reduction of £1 on the admission charge for visitors
in an Austin or Morris vehicle.
Last year the highlight of the day
was the trip up Test Hill in an example of the only sports
car that Morris Motors ever made - the 10/6 Special. The
weather was kind for open cars as rain held off for most
of the time with only a brief shower at lunch time.
The event ended with the traditional
cavalcade around the roads in the museum and Mercedes Benz
World with the cars arranged on the banking for the traditional
picture.
A pair of 1934 non sports Morrises
in front of the Shell pagoda. . On the left is a Cowley
Four saloon with the very original Ten Four tourer on the
right. Surprisingly the tourer was the cheapest model in
the Ten range which is why it doesn't have bumpers which
like wheels on a BMW were optional extras.
The first of what is hoped
to be a series of workshop manuals for pre-war Morris cars
is now available. This is a reproduction of the official Morris
Motors manual for the Series E Eight which is now available
online
thanks to the wonders of on demand publishing.
The
manual gives an excellent description of how to carry out
most of the mechanical repairs needed for the Series E. The
similarity between the mechanical components with the earlier
Eight Series I & II make it a useful source for all Eight
owners.
The next manual will be
the one for the Series M Ten although this is not so relevant
to the earlier models as most of the mechanical parts were
modified.
It should be possible
to produce a manual for the Series I & II Eight although
we are discussing whether this should be part of the Series
E manual because of the large amount of shared material. Please
email us with your views on this.
We also provide a vehicle dating
service for Morris vehicles and have just received
approval from DVLA. If you need help with any aspect
of registering your Morris please contact the webmaster
for further details.
For more information
on existing UK registration numbers look on the Technical/Calculators
page which can help you to find your long lost Morris.
We are pleased to announce
an exclusive deal with Footman James to provide a 10% discount
on their classic vehicle insurance policies.
