Morris Centenary 1913-2013
Morris-Austin Day at Brooklands
2013
Sunday March 10th
As the picture above shows there was a good range of pre-war Morris
cars lined up in front of the Clubhouse by the time that the museum
opened at 10:00. They continued to turn up during the day and were
clearly not put off by the cold wind which even briefly brought a
flurry of snow. There were about equal numbers of pre-war Austins so
let's hope that this continues next year.
The event was so well attended that all of the pre-war cars couldn't be
accommodated in the Paddock so it was just as well that some space had
been allocated outside it.
To mark the significant milestone in Morris history arrangements had
been made for the cavalcade to do a couple of laps around the Mercedes
Benz World high speed demonstration track. Unfortunately the large
number of cars in the parade meant that one driver was heard to comment
that it was more like the M25 on a bad day although the cars did manage
to circulate continuously even when the lead car caught the tail one.
Despite this it was a privilege to drive on part of the old Campbell
Circuit on the way to the newer version.
The cavalcade ended with the cars arranged on the banking for the traditional picture followed by runs up Test Hill.
A pair of 1934 non sports Morrises
in front of the Shell pagoda. . On the left is a Cowley
Four saloon with the very original Ten Four tourer on the
right. Surprisingly the tourer was the cheapest model in
the Ten range which is why it doesn't have bumpers which
like wheels on a BMW were optional extras.
We also provide a vehicle dating
service for Morris vehicles and have just received
approval from DVLA. If you need help with any aspect
of registering your Morris please contact the webmaster
for further details.
For more information
on existing UK registration numbers look on the Technical/Calculators
page which can help you to find your long lost Morris.
